The work of Gibraltarian author MG Sanchez has been featured by a professor at the University of Salamanca. Anna Maria Manzanas looks at the place his writing, and Gibraltarian writing in general, occupies in the space she describes as one of multiple cultural traditions and linguistic contamination.
This space, she says is anatomized as crossed and partitioned by multiple and fluid borders and boundaries. Professor Manzanas believes that what appears deficient or lacking from the British and Spanish point of view is repossessed in Sanchez’s writing on order to flesh out a border culture with very specific linguistic and cultural traits.
She argues against stringent border controls, saying political boundaries cut both ways and one cannot block one side without considering the consequences of the blocking on the other.
