World Music Festival wows audience

Performers at the World Music Festival had the audience on its feet last night.

Musicians from Israel, the Blue Desert, Ethiopia and Mali rocked St Michael’s Cave last night, with a mixture of jazz, blues, soul and funk with a unique African influence.

The Uprising theme was evident, across all three performances with the artists telling the story of their continuing fight to exist as musicians in spite of the oppression in Africa.

Yossi Fine and Ben Aylon kicked off the evening but it was the music from Ethiopia with Gili Yalo that got everyone up and dancing. Bassekou Kouyate with music from Bali ended the evening, and it was the playing of a bongo style instrument that dazzled the audience and can only be described as masterful.
