GBC is provided live coverage of the Episcopal Ordination of Mgr Mark Miles. Mgr Miles, who has worked in the Vatican’s diplomatic service since 2003, is best known for being Pope Francis’ official English/Spanish translator, although more recently has worked in Washington DC in the Holy See Observer Mission to the Organisation of American States. Earlier this year, the Holy Father appointed Mgr Miles Apostolic Nuncio to Benin and the Togolese Republic, for which he has been elevated to the dignity of Arch Bishop. The Episcopal Ordination is took place at the Europa Sports Centre, with the Principal Consecrator being the Secretary of State for the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin. There were other visiting senior figures of the Catholic Church, together with members of the local clergy in attendance, for what will be a significant moment in the Gibraltar Diocese’s history.
