The Women’s FIDE Grand Prix Gibraltar took place earlier this year (2021), with the prestigious event garnering massive media attention around the world following the hit TV series, ‘The Queen’s Gambit’. Since the inception of the Gibraltar Chess Festival in 2003 almost all the world’s top female players have taken part, including the greatest woman player of all time, Judit Polgar, and seven other Women World Champions. ‘The Home of Chess’ returns with a three-episode series following the Grand Prix competition and the twelve best female players in the world.
The Gibraltar International Chess Festival is the strongest and best-organised event of its kind in the world. In January 2020, GBC’s Christine Vasquez gained VIP access to the behind the scenes organisation, as well as exclusive interviews with Grandmasters, Anatoly Karpov and Vassily Ivanchuk. Chess is played in more than 150 countries, and it’s estimated that hundreds of millions of people know how to play the board game. For two weeks every year, Gibraltar becomes ‘The Home of Chess’.
