SS Uganda: Liner To Hospital Ship

A special programme documenting Gibraltar’s vital role during the Falklands conflict 40 years ago and the re-fitting of a hospital ship at the Dockyard. SS Uganda – Cruise Liner to Hospital Ship tells the story of the men and women of the Gibraltar Royal Naval Dockyard who converted an educational cruise liner into a floating hospital in just 65 hours.

With interviews recorded during events in Gibraltar to mark the 40th anniversary earlier this year, access to the diaries of a local ship enthusiast, stories of a local Falkland veteran and first-hand accounts from those who worked day and night on accomplishing this tremendous feat, this 1-hour programme is a fascinating insight into the crucial work carried out in Gibraltar in Great Britain’s mission to liberate the Falkland Islands.
