A new series of the local history programme, ‘In Their Footsteps’. This time, Richard Garcia, looks back at the years that followed the capture of Gibraltar in 1704, when events were mainly recorded by military men. Therefore, sieges and military exploits loom large in their accounts, as it was what mattered to them. The ordinary people in Gibraltar at the time were of little importance to them, so the stories of the lives of these ordinary people remained untold. For this reason, it is important to recover the voices of these Gibraltar citizens and understand what their lives were like, as described over the next eight weeks.
