The Tribe

For many in Ghana a good education remains an unattainable luxury, with adult literacy still less than 50 per cent. One third of the country’s population live below the poverty line and private schools are unaffordable for most, while public schools make do with insufficient facilities in broken buildings and huts. In 2014, GBC's cameras followed The Tribe - a group of Gibraltarians who went on a mission to finish the construction of four schools in the beach community of Maranatha located in the Dangme East District of Ghana, which has the highest crime and poverty rate in the country. The filming of The Tribe allowed viewers to witness the life changing journey of the local youths as they made a difference.
