A father who passed away in Gibraltar without his family being able to say goodbye in person. A wife living on the Rock whose husband died alone in a Moroccan hospital. A young woman stranded in Tétouan & then Tangier for seven months, longing to cross the Strait to be reunited with her husband.
The prolonged absence of transport links between Gibraltar and Morocco has been weighing on the shoulders of anyone whose life used to involve regular short journeys across the narrow stretch of water separating Europe from Africa. That pressure reached boiling point in recent days when the Moroccan Community Association in Gibraltar held a protest supported by 300-400, asking the Moroccan government to resume transport links between Gibraltar and Tangiers.
They said Moroccans on the Rock should be able to visit Morocco, like many citizens from other countries now can, highlighting the difficulties experienced by hundreds of families here for months now.
On this episode of Viewpoint, we hear first-hand accounts of the severe impact this situation is having on people's lives here in Gibraltar.
