The Government says it is entirely inappropriate for the GSD to politicise a legal case, in response to criticism from the Opposition party as to its handling of the Marrache fraud case.
The Government says it is the Prisons Act – introduced by GSD Leader Daniel Feetham when he was Justice Minister – that made Isaac Marrache eligible for parole after serving a third of his sentence. It adds current Justice Minister, Neil Costa, has proposed the need to consider reforming Gibraltar’s sentencing laws.
The Government says while Mr Costa and the Supreme Court have a difference of views on whether he was entitled to withdraw his reference on the parole case to the Supreme Court, this is being addressed in Gibraltar’s courts.
