With under a week to go before the UK Prime Minister triggers Article 50 to start exiting the European Union, Gibraltar “could not be better placed” in the Brexit process.
This according to the Governor Edward Davis, who says the Gibraltar Government “could not be more connected” to Theresa May’s Government, or “more plugged into the process”, than it is.
Speaking to GBC, Mr Davis said the Chief Minister and his team have energetically and compellingly pursued four core priorities: maintaining and broadening trade access to the UK; a share of the trade the UK will have with the EU; a share of the trade it will have with the rest of the world, and; a fluid land border with Spain.
The Governor is confident Gibraltar will rise to the challenges presented by Brexit. He said the Rock has remained British for 312 years in large part because its people have been able to successfully manage risk and seize opportunity.
