A feature film centred on Iberian orcas in the Strait of Gibraltar, and the surrounding area, is currently being produced.
SACRO aims to tell a story about the critically endangered species and their interactions with people.
The filmmakers wanted to tell a cinematic tale rather than a documentary.
It hopes to highlight the area's marine environment, scientific leadership and commitment to conservation.
SACRO or ORCAS spelt in reverse, aims to put the spotlight on orcas but in a positive way.
The film will be directed by acclaimed Portuguese filmmaker Maria de Medeiros.
Actors and producers Iñigo Galiano and Maarten Dannenberg were in Gibraltar to meet with Minister Cortes and local business and NGOs, about the project. They spoke at the Charles Hunt Room and discussed issues relating to the film and wildife conservation with the Nautilus Projct and the ESG, to name a few.
SACRO will be set and partly produced in Gibraltar and is expected to feature local and internationally acclaimed actors to tell its story.
The plot of the film centres on an encounter with an orca at sea. Inspired by events that have been covered many times in the media of orca interactions.
Filmmakers are hoping that it will have strong international commercial and festival potential, as the project seeks partners and investors to help bring it to the screen.
