The first Youth Parliament has seen a series of lively debates on key issues affecting young peoples lives.

Sixteen teenagers aged 16 to 19 have debated a number of issues in the Parliament chamber, with proceedings overseen by speaker Karen Ramagge Phillips.

The final topic - whether the voting age should be lowered to sixteen.

Gibraltar's first Youth Parliament has given students the opportunity to develop their confidence and public speaking skills, while gaining first-hand experience of parliamentary debate.

In the final session of Youth Parliament, two teams of four young people argued whether the voting age should be lowered to sixteen.

Judging the debate were the Chief Minister and the Leader of the Opposition, alongside external adjudicators Dr Jennifer Ballantine Perera and Jerry Aguilera.

In the end, it was Team 3 that took the win.

Whether the experience inspires a future career in politics or simply has helped to develop key skills, the initiative has given these young people a platform to debate issues that shape Gibraltar's future.
