The Government is dismissing what it describes as false rumours surrounding the planned Westside reclamation.

It says the project will be used solely to build affordable homes and is reassuring residents there will be no loss of the GSLA bathing pavilion or children's recreational facilities.

The Government says the reclamation has been designed to preserve the bathing pavilion, in line with the original Europort plans from the 1980s. It adds that the existing children's park will be expanded as part of the final development, with a temporary relocation during construction to ensure there is no loss of play facilities.

It says the affordable homes are intended for the long-term benefit of Gibraltar's growing community, giving current and future generations the same opportunities as those who benefited from previous affordable housing developments made possible by earlier reclamation projects.

The Government says detailed plans for the development will be published soon, and is urging the public to ignore what it describes as misinformation surrounding the project.
