The Government says action against foreign taxis operating in Gibraltar is having an effect, with fewer cases now being reported.

Ten drivers have been fined, and Uber has changed its service so journeys from Spain no longer end in Gibraltar.

The Ministry of Transport says its officers, alongside the RGP, have been checking foreign-registered taxis at the frontier.

It says ten fixed penalty notices have been issued to drivers found operating in breach of Gibraltar’s licensing rules, while others have been told to leave Gibraltar.

The Government says only vehicles licensed by the Transport Commission can carry passengers for hire or reward within Gibraltar.

It says Uber has now changed its geo-location system so trips from Spain stop at the border.

Passengers are being told they have to cross on foot before taking a Gibraltar taxi or bus.

The Ministry says reports of foreign taxis coming into Gibraltar to pick up passengers have dropped and that checks and enforcement at the frontier continues.
