The Royal Navy's lead attack submarine, HMS Anson, is back in Gibraltar waters.

The nuclear-powered submarine is one of the most advanced in the world.

Last week, in a major defence review, the Ministry of Defence said Gibraltar remains a vital forward base, as the UK steps up its "war-fighting readiness".

HMS Trent is also back for quick logisitical support before going back to operations.

British Forces says her forward deployed status to Gibraltar enables her to respond rapidly to international security challenges.

In recent months, Trent has worked in the Caribbean with U.S authorities on eight major drug interdictions, including the seizure of close to one billion pounds worth of cocaine.
