Gibraltar's treaty agreement has been highlighted by a political party in the Spanish enclave of Melilla as a model for future cross-border cooperation.
Nueva Melilla, which has representation in the city's assembly, says the new arrangements at the Gibraltar frontier show how neighbouring communities can benefit from easier movement and stronger economic links.
The party says it would like to see closer ties one day between Melilla and the neighbouring Moroccan city of Nador, including cooperation in areas such as trade, tourism, education and infrastructure.
It argues that Gibraltar demonstrates how practical cooperation can be developed without either side abandoning its position on sovereignty.
