Outgoing Heritage Trust Chair Ian Balestrino reflects on what we can do to protect our past

Heritage Trust Chair Ian Balestrino will be stepping down, with Keith Farrell to take on the role.

Minister for Heritage John Cortes has thanked Mr Balestrino for his work, describing him as a force for heritage over the years.

Dr Cortes described Mr Balestrino's approach as firm but constructive and instrumental in the relationship between Government and the Trust.

Mr Balestrino has served two terms as Chair in a voluntary capacity. He has also stepped down from the Board of the Trust. Mr Balestrino has spent many years fighting for heritage on the frontline but also behind the scenes.

He says though people are more aware of the value of protecting our heritage, he is concerned about the future.
