Twenty new Government rental homes are being added to the housing stock through an extension constructed above the existing Knights Court building.
The Housing Minister recognised the opportunity to create additional homes during the estate’s refurbishment works, allowing the existing site to be maximised while delivering much-needed new accommodation.
The development will provide three three-bedroom apartments and seventeen two-bedroom apartments, increasing the availability of Government rental housing.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of September.
And, Action for Housing has welcomed the 20 new rental homes at Knights Court, but says the development highlights the scale of demand for Government housing.
The group argues that more Government rental stock is needed to make a significant impact on the waiting list.
It is also asking the Government what proportion of future developments, including the new Westside reclamation, will be allocated to rental housing.
