The University of Gibraltar Maritime Academy has announced a major strategic partnership with GTT Training Ltd, a UK-based subsidiary of a global LNG technology company.

The University’s MCA-approved BSc Maritime Science cadetship remains the only one of its kind outside the UK with guaranteed sea-time.

The collaboration is aimed at strengthening maritime education and research in Liquefied Natural Gas, a sector that’s playing an increasingly vital role in global shipping.

It will see the development of specialist training programmes aligned with international standards, as well as new opportunities for Maritime Science cadets to train on LNG-powered vessels.

GTT has over a century of combined experience in LNG operations which the University believes will enhance the Academy’s offerings, positioning Gibraltar as a Maritime Centre of Excellence and a key LNG bunkering hub.

Head of the Maritime Academy, Aaron Lopez, said the partnership ensures cadets and professionals are trained to the highest standards.

GTT Training General Manager Neil Macnab described the partnership as key to delivering the innovation and skills needed for a sustainable shipping future.
