Young anglers are casting their lines this morning as the Gibraltar Federation of Sea Anglers’ annual Junior Fishing Competition gets underway at Peter Isola Promenade.

The event is the final activity in the Federation’s summer programme organised in partnership with the GSLA Summer Sports Programme.

Aged between seven and 14,  competitors are taking part in two age categories, with prizes up for grabs for the highest scores and the heaviest fish caught. Catch-and-release is being encouraged, although fish above the legal minimum size may be kept.

Young anglers are also being supported by some of Gibraltar’s most experienced fishermen, including competitors who have represented Gibraltar internationally. The competition is due to conclude at midday, with a prize-giving ceremony expected to finish at around 1pm.
