Thirty-eight former senior members of Spain’s Socialist Party have signed a manifesto calling for the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez as party leader.
The news is of interest to Gibraltar as the PSOE Government which has reached a political agreement over the Gibraltar EU relationship is becoming increasingly unstable.
The signatories include former ministers, MPs and regional leaders from the PSOE’s historic ranks—many of them aligned with the legacy of former Prime Minister Felipe González.
They accuse Sánchez of steering the party away from its founding principles and damaging Spain’s democratic institutions.
The manifesto describes his leadership as “sectarian and polarising,” and criticises recent political moves, including his reliance on Catalan pro-independence parties and the controversial amnesty law for those involved in the 2017 secession attempt.
While none of the signatories currently hold political office, the move reflects deep unease among the PSOE’s old guard, and growing discontent among influential individuals.
