Proceedings were overseen by speaker Karen Ramagge Phillips

Might this be the future of Gibraltar politics? These students took part in the first Gibraltar Youth Parliament.

Presiding over this session of Parliament was speaker Karen Ramagge Phillips, who was impressed by what she saw.

The young, would-be politicians debated some of the issues shaping their generation, including artificial intelligence, freedom of speech and even whether the voting age should be lowered to sixteen.

The idea behind the initiative was to give young people a voice, a valuable platform to develop confidence, public speaking skills, teamwork, and a greater understanding of parliamentary practices.

There were four adjudicators, with the Government and Opposition represented by Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Garcia, GSD MP Atrish Sanchez, along with broadcaster Michelle Rugeroni and lawyer Jonathan Garcia.

The sessions continue until the 22nd June.
