The Deputy Chief Minister says the treaty agreement will deliver as close a relationship to EU membership as possible – adding this is what Gibraltar voted for in the Brexit referendum.
In his budget address, Joseph Garcia said the Government of Gibraltar had been present at all negotiating rounds, and that a succession of ministers from various Conservative governments and now the Labour administration had come to understand the Gibraltar position.
He said the UK's own EU trade deal was ideologically in line with a Brexiteer administration in London, and that Gibraltar's own requirements and objectives for an treaty were, and are, very different - adding what's been agreed will deliver a "considerable" package of benefits for Gibraltar residents.
