GFA responds after Manchester 62 docked six points over unpaid wages

The GFA says it only became aware that Manchester 62 players were not being paid after a player officially reported the issue on the 11th of September.

The statement follows the news that the club was docked six points by the Gibraltar Football Association’s Club Licensing First Instance Board, following a series of serious financial and regulatory breaches.

The Gibraltar FA still doesn't have an operational National Dispute Resolution Centre which would deal with matters such as unpaid wages.

GBC asked the Assocation whether FIFA had dealt with any local player complaints over the past three years. It claims some have succeeded in the past, but these were all international cases, as FIFA only accepts disputes with an international dimension. (Decisions of the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber are available on FIFA’s website).

GBC also asked why the NDRC, first introduced in Gibraltar in 2021, will not be functional until the end of the year.

The GFA explained that when the body was ready to proceed, FIFA changed its framework which required a new application process starting in November last year. This involved amending the GFA’s regulations and statutes to list the NDRC as a judicial body. The GFA is conducting a governance review and hopes to have the revised statutes in place shortly.

For now, it says the NDRC can only handle national cases, such as disputes involving local and British participants. Regulations enabling it to formally hear such cases will be published soon.
