Spain’s Foreign Minister has described the recent agreement between the UK and the EU on Gibraltar as a “historic leap” that will boost daily life and relations between Spain and the UK.

In an interview on Canal Sur Radio, José Manuel Albares highlighted free movement of people and goods, Gibraltar’s integration into Schengen and the Customs Union, and the opening of the airport to Spanish and European flights. He said this would bring economic growth to Gibraltar and the Campo area.

He also said he had consulted with local mayors and the Junta de Andalusia to ensure the agreement reflects the needs of people living and working in the area.

José Manuel Albares said the treaty would also help improve bilateral relations between the UK and Spain.
