Spanish aircraft crosses BA flight plan, causing it to circle

A Spanish aircraft flew across the flight plan of an incoming British Airways flight on Friday, causing it to be put into a holding pattern.

This was confirmed by a Convent spokesperson, who said: “Safety is our main priority”. The plane was only slightly delayed and was able to land after circling round once in airspace to the east of the Rock.

“The FCDO makes formal diplomatic representation to Spain where appropriate. Incursions are a violation of UK sovereignty, not a threat to it.”

Spanish media reports suggest the aircraft was an Airbus helicopter.
