Gibraltar ID card holders and Civilian Registration Card holders will use dedicated immigration lanes at the Gibraltar Airport under the new arrangements linked to the UK-EU Treaty.

The Government has also confirmed that local document holders will remain exempt from the EU’s Entry/Exit System when travelling through Schengen borders.

The Government has issued a reminder on how the new immigration arrangements will work for Gibraltar residents travelling through Gibraltar Airport and across the Schengen Area.

It says Gibraltar Identity Card holders and Civilian Registration Card holders, regardless of nationality, should use the immigration lanes reserved for Gibraltar document holders and EU citizens at Gibraltar Airport.

Schengen checks at the airport will be carried out with the assistance of e-gates.

The Government says manual checks will be available where there are technical issues, initial implementation problems, or where passengers are travelling with children under the age of 12.

Gibraltar document holders will continue to be exempt from the EU Entry/Exit System, known as EES, and residents are being reminded to continue travelling with their passports.

For those crossing other Schengen external borders, Gibraltar document holders will continue to be treated as third-country nationals and will need to use the "all other passports" corridor, including the lane for travellers exempt from EESrequirements where available.

The Government also says the European Union is exploring with Schengen States the possibility of Gibraltar document holders using corridors reserved for EU, EEA and Swiss citizens.
