Government says it remains committed to Covid-19 Inquiry

The Covid-19 Inquiry remains a Government commitment, but it says delays are due to the "significant and sustained focus required to conclude the UK–EU treaty, and the subsequent and ongoing work associated with its implementation."

In answer to GBC questions, Number Six said it has not had the necessary bandwidth to progress the matter as originally anticipated.

Last year the Government announced that the draft Terms of Reference was ready, and that a body would be established by the end of 2025.

However, a spokesperson told GBC: "The priority in recent months has been to ensure that Gibraltar is fully prepared to implement the Treaty, given its importance to the future stability and prosperity of our economy."

Work on the Inquiry will resume once work on the Treaty implementation is complete, including finalising the Terms of Reference, appointing the Chair and members and setting a commencement date.
