GRA launches 'Sandbox' initiative for test-running data protection compliance

The Regulatory Authority is launching an initiative to help organisations test their compliance with Gibraltar’s privacy and data protection laws.

The “Sandbox” aims to provide a controlled environment to test innovative products, services or data uses before full-scale deployment.

The GRA says this is designed to reduce regulatory uncertainty and support the development of compliant solutions in emerging sectors and technologies.

It’s open to organisations of all sizes, including start-ups, public bodies and non-profit organisations.

The GRA says “applicants must demonstrate how their product or service uses new knowledge or technologies to deliver meaningful public benefit”.

The Sandbox will offer a range of advisory and supervisory mechanisms: workshops, guidance, walkthroughs and informal supervision.

The initiative is in its “beta phase” and could be adapted based on feedback and experience.

Sandbox participation will follow a phased intake model, with projects expected to run for 12-15 months.
