The GSD has described recent attacks on former Principal Auditor Tony Sacramento as "regrettable and wrong".
It criticised both the Chief Secretary and former Speaker Adolfo Canepa, who suggested the Auditor's call for a Public Accounts Committee amounted to political interference.
Shadow Minister for Public Finance Roy Clinton says this reflects best practice across the UK and Overseas Territories, and reminding him that public feedback in 2013 had favoured its creation.
He says the 2019 audit report made clear the “enormous difficulties, obstacles and delays” Mr Sacramento faced in obtaining information from senior officials.
He says the GSD takes these observations seriously.
Mr Clinton called the Chief Secretary’s recent circular to public servants “self-serving in the extreme,” and said it appeared timed to follow Government attacks on the report.
He suggested it was part of a campaign to discredit both the report and its author.
