The Mayor of La Línea has confirmed his Ayuntamiento has taken the first formal step to transfer municipal land to Spain’s central government.
The land, currently designated as the Recinto ferial, hosts the town’s summer fair.
Juan Franco says the transfer of 1,800 square metres of land owned by his city to the Spanish national government, will allow the widening of the road linking the Spanish border with Gibraltar Airport, an element he says is key in plans for potential shared use of the airport under the treaty.
The Mayor of La Línea says the project is part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure, support the technology centre planned for the area adjacent to the airport, and boost economic opportunities in La Línea and the wider Campo de Gibraltar.
Juan Franco added he has not yet seen the text of the treaty and looks forward to learning more about the details that could bring tangible benefits to his city.
