La Línea Mayor welcomes treaty but warns it also brings new challenges

The Mayor of La Línea has welcomed the long-awaited publication of the treaty text.

But Juan Franco warns that while it addresses some concerns, it also brings new challenges.

With no physical border and more people and vehicles moving through, he says his city will face greater strain on public services, while the budget for running La Línea stays the same.

He adds that the responsibility now falls on the Spanish national government to turn those promises into real support for La Linea.

Meanwhile San Roque Mayor, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix said he hoped the Partido Popular did not attempt to boycott what he called a historic agreement that will benefit thousands of families in the Campo area.

Mr Ruiz Boix says what people here want is for the free movement of people and goods to be the norm, not an exception.
