Massive wildfire erupts in Tarifa, evacuations underway

A huge wildfire has broken out in Tarifa this evening.

The blaze was ignited in a caravan at the Camping Torre de la Peña, and strong Levante winds fanned the flames, prompting evacuations of the nearby camping area and surroundings.

The blaze has taken hold in the area of La Peña, and Valde-vaqueros, with firefighters attempting to combat the spread of the fire from different directions, including amphibious planes and helicopters.

The beaches and camping sites have been evacuated.

Tarifa is a regular holiday destination for Gibraltarians, and a well-known area for water-sports in the region.
