The Ministry of Justice has rolled out sanctions training to both the private and public sector as part of its wider sanctions training and preparedness programme.
On going private sector training aims to ensure businesses understand their responsibilities under Gibraltar’s sanctions framework, how it interacts with UN, UK and EU rules, and how to handle cross-border compliance and licensing. The government encourages the private sector to take the opportunity to attend training.
The Minister for Justice, Trade and Industry, Nigel Feetham, said the training is intended to provide practical guidance on issues they may encounter and is important that the legal framework and what is expected in practice is understood.
Public sector training was also delivered to relevant agencies and authorities to strengthen coordination and combined technical learnings and practical exercises focused on trade sanctions, maritime activity, complex ownership structures, investigations and financial flows.
Nigel Feetham added that sanctions are increasingly complex and can involve activity across different jurisdictions and it is important that agencies understand not only their own responsibilities but how they work together when faced with a practical case.
