Politicians from both sides of the House have supported Gibraltar’s fourth pride event, highlighting how far we’d come as a community.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Minister, Gemma Arias Vasquez spoke of the legislation her Government had introduced for the LGBTQ+ community, describing it as the most progressive in Gibraltar’s history.  But, she added, they were not yet done. The event, she said, reminded us that rights can never be taken for granted but should be advanced, protected and celebrated.

Equality Minister Christian Santos, who took to the Pride stage at Casemates, not only as a minister but as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, said giving someone rights did not deny or erode the rights of others.    He spoke of how difficult being Gay had been growing up - Pride, he said, is not just a party but also about resistance and survival.

Opposition Leader, Keith Azopardi also supported the event which he said reflected a modern, progressive, diverse and respectful society.  He gave a commitment that the rights that have been advanced would not change under a GSD Government.

And Together Gibraltar Leader, Nicky Calamaro congratulated those present, and the organisers, saying that without them Gibraltar would be a darker and more dangerous place.  LGBTQ+ rights, he said, were human rights and that everyone in the community deserves the right to be themselves.
