Port Authority updates notice to mariners

The Port Authority has updated two of its notices to mariners.

A temporary light has been fitted at the South Mole, and two safety markers have been repositioned on the East Side.

The Alpha Head Light system located at the South Mole has been fitted with a temporary white isophase light.

The AToN system, which helps mariners navigate safely into the harbour, developed a fault at the end of last year, leaving the area unlit.

The Port Authority says this is a temporary fix and is not in line with nautical charts.

Once the correct light is delivered, the temporary one will be replaced.

Meanwhile, on the East Side, where works are ongoing, two yellow station buoys have now been repositioned.

The safety markers were washed ashore in December due to adverse weather conditions.

The Port Authority says anyone going out to sea, including paddle boarders and kayakers, should stay well clear of the demarcated area.
