At the Supreme Court a police officer accused of sexual offences has begun giving evidence.

Elliott Brooke is charged with attempted rape and sexual assault against a female police officer.

The 34 year old told the court that during the night in question, he and the complainant were alone in the Police Control Room, where what began as an innocent conversation quickly became personal and inappropriate.

Mr Brooke claimed the complainant was engaging and flirty throughout their interaction, adding that things got 'hot under the collar'.

He said that at one point she told him 'they shouldn't be doing this', but described this as a 'moral dilemma' and said he did not interpret it as her saying 'no'.

The defendant denies all charges.
