There are thirty-three registered sex offenders in Gibraltar, according to the Royal Gibraltar Police. These are all managed by Dedicated Risk Managers from the Public Protection Unit.
In answer to GBC questions, the RGP says it cannot disclose any information of individuals on the register as it is against the law for them to publish anyone's previous convictions. The police says the only exception to this would be if there was an imminent risk to the public however, this would only be done through the Strategic Management Board, which is chaired by the Police Commissioner and the Government department with responsibility for Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements.
In England and Wales, the Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme, known as 'Sarah's Law', was set up following the murder of eight-year-old Sarah Payne in 2000. The law allows people, usually parents or guardians of children, to confidentially ask police whether someone who has contact with the child has a record for child sexual offences. A similar scheme, 'Keeping children safe', is also in place in Scotland.
