Lawyers for the former police commissioner Ian McGrail say they have not asked for the Inquiry to be reconvened, as the Government has claimed.

They say they’ve instead asked the Inquiry to take into account the contents of the Principal Auditor's Report.

The lawyers for Ian McGrail say the Principal Auditor's Report showed that police officers had not only been given jobs for making adverse statements against Mr. McGrail but also paid large sums of public money.

Mr McGrail’s lawyers say the Government’s statement that they want the Inquiry to reconvene is “another falsehood", adding they've asked the Inquiry to investigate how this has made it to the public.

Mr. McGrail’s lawyers say he is confident that he will be vindicated by the Inquiry and the last thing on his mind is to prolong this procedure.

They say there has been a vicious and malicious campaign against him by powerful entities in Gibraltar.

The Inquiry itself has so far not made any public comment on this exchange.
