Spanish officials have confirmed that the large forest fire near Tarifa - which broke out Tuesday afternoon - has now been stabilised.
More than 1,500 people were forced to leave homes, hotels, and camp-sites which are popular with many Gibraltarians.
Authorities have now given the go-ahead for them to return.
The fire reportedly broke out at 4 o clock on Tuesday afternoon, near a camp-site in Torre de la Peña, following a vehicle fire. No injuries have been reported.
Spanish authorities have mobilised over 5,000 vehicles and extensive fire fighting resources, including helicopters and water bombers, to battle the flames.
The main coastal road, the N-340, remains open only for through traffic, with access to local roads and properties still heavily restricted.
The Junta de Andalucía’s Minister for the Interior, says the fire has been largely brought under control. But at a press conference this morning, Antonio Sanz continues to urge the public to keep clear of Tarifa and the affected areas, and to limit travel to essential journeys only, to allow fire-fighters to work effectively.
The priority he says remains public safety and restoring full access as soon as possible.
