The medieval world came to life for Year 2 pupils at St Bernard’s Lower Primary School, with a full day of activities all about what it was like to live in a historical castle.
The newly-developed Discovery Fortress outdoor learning facilities were used by students to plant their own fruit and vegetables, with support from Gibralflora,
They also role-played buying and selling their produce within a set budget, developing both historical awareness and numeracy skills.
Pupils also explored the creative side of castle life, designing and crafting their own shields with personalised coats of arms, before using them to defend their castle in a siege of flying bean bags!
Pupils also composed their own pieces inspired by the castle theme, and worked to solve an escape room challenge with clues based on the history of the Moorish Castle.
The Government said, “It was a day filled with learning, creativity, adventure, and fun, leaving Year 2 inspired and buzzing with enthusiasm for the world of castles and the stories they hold."
