Suspended police officer arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm

A police officer who was already suspended in connection with a separate matter has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

The Royal Gibraltar Police says the 34 year old British man was arrested after officers responded to reports of an assault in the Prince Edward's Road area during the early hours of Sunday.

A woman was treated in hospital for bruising, grazes and a suspected shoulder fracture before being discharged.

The RGP's Professional Standards Department is now carrying out an investigation. 

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
