A UK National has been sentenced to 15 months’ custody and given an eight and a half month driving ban.
51 year old Louis Glynn pleaded guilty to a number of driving offences, including causing nearly two and a half thousand pounds' worth of damage to a police motorcycle.
Louis Glynn was charged with dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, obstructing police and failure to stop, as well as criminal damage.
The incident happened in August 2024, when police stopped to assist the UK national who was attempting to manoeuvre a boat trailer around the bend outside St Joseph's Church in the South District.
They asked Glynn to switch off the car as they suspected that he was disqualified from driving.
However, the defendant sped off against the flow of traffic, narrowly missing parked vehicles, and ended up colliding and driving over a police motorbike.
The total amount of damages of the bike amounted to just over £2,400.
The 51 year old left his car at the top of Buena Vista Road; CCTV footage showed that Glynn had run away.
He was not found, but later handed himself in to police.
When sentencing, Puisne Judge John Restano told the defendant that the 15 months' sentence is the shortest he can pass given the seriousness of the offences.
Time served will be taken into account.
