A series of new laws and regulations, many implementing provisions of the UK-EU Treaty, have been published in the Gibraltar Gazette.
Regulations include arrangements for Schengen checks as well as the use of Schengen alerts.
Also gazetted are amendments governing eligibility to register aircraft in Gibraltar.
The amendments extend eligibility to UK, Crown Dependency and Overseas Territory citizens and companies, as well as those from the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
These changes come as Gibraltar airport prepares to open up to commercial EU flights.
The Environmental Crime Regulations 2026 make domestic provision for an EU directive on the protection of the environment through criminal law.
The regulations bring a range of existing environmental offences under a new environmental crime framework, covering areas including pollution, waste, protected species, habitats, air and water quality, invasive species, chemicals and deforestation.
They also create two new offences covering when environmental discharges cause death, serious injury or substantial environmental damage, and the placing on the market of dangerous products that cause environmental harm. The regulations provide for maximum prison sentences of up to ten years where an offence results in death.
Also published are regulations implementing EU vehicle emissions and battery durability standards in Gibraltar.
They introduce phased requirements for new vehicles to comply with Euro 7 standards and provide for roadside emissions checks. Inspectors will also have powers to seize non-compliant vehicles in certain circumstances.
Other regulations gazetted include changes relating to sanctions enforcement, renewable energy targets, single-use plastics and maritime matters.
