Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Reports say he is in custody and officers are carrying out searches at his residences in Berkshire and Norfolk.
This follows allegations in relation to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
He has strenuously denied any wrongdoing.
The news is dominating today's headlines.
Andrew-Mountbatten Windsor has been mired in controversy over his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for many years.
The scandal led to the loss of all his titles and his expulsion from the Royal Family.
However, the recent release of new files in the USA along with photographs has seen fresh allegations made against the former Prince.
Thames Valley police has been reviewing allegations that a woman was trafficked to the UK by Epstein for a sexual encounter with Andrew, as well as claims that he shared sensitive information with the disgraced financier while serving as the UK's trade envoy.
Unmarked cars are reported to have arrived at his new residence on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk just after 8am this morning.
Andrew, who turns 66 today, has made two official visits to Gibraltar in 1993 and 1995.
The first was to carry out official duties, coinciding with the presence of British Military vessels.
The second was in place of his sister, Princess Anne, to open the Island Games - dubbed the Sunshine Games - which was being hosted on the Rock for the first time.
He toured the Games Village and met competing athletes.
But so much has changed since then.
King Charles is reported to not have known in advance about his brother's arrest, issuing the following statement hours later:
.
