The Catalan Bay Senior Committee has accused the Government of adding insult to injury, by suggesting the public look south instead of east to see the horizon from the beach.
It says the marina arm clearly goes all the way across, and in front of, Catalan Bay - contrary to original assurances that it wouldn't go further than the old La Mamela Restaurant.
The Committee claims the Government has been proved wrong on four key issues:
Firstly, on the length of the marina arm - it claims once this is built, there will be no place on the beach from where members of the public will ever see the sunrise.
Secondly, on their statements that there was no shellfish life in the area.
Thirdly, that there would not be any pollution on the beaches. It says images submitted to the DPC show how the proposed marina would flush its polluted waters onto Eastern Beach, Catalan Bay and the Sandy Bay basin.
Plus, it says, sands will be lost on the southern halves of Eastern Beach and Catalan Bay which will then have to be imported in from abroad. This, it adds, would result in heavy trucks and machinery generating more dust and beach pollution.
Fourthly, it says while the Government promotes Gibraltar's free beaches, it points out that parking at Catalan Bay will only be free in the summer months.
Finally, the Committee calls on the Government to stop wrecking the environment and enjoyment of a clean and healthy Gibraltar, and what's left of the Gibraltarian way of life.
