Fees at the court of appeal have gone up for the first time in over 20 years.

The cost to secure the lodging of an appeal has gone up from £120 to £1,000. This could be collected as security or by entering into a bond for the amount.

In a circular shared with GBC by the court, it says the adjustments take account of the increase in the Retail Price Index. It adds that careful consideration has also been given to ensuring that access to justice is maintained.

Some of the increases include filing notice of an appeal going from £120 to £500, the cost of filing a motion has gone from £50 to £200.

The number of appeals being made has gone up slightly over the last few years, however, the court says this has nothing to do with the decision.
