Eastside powercut: Contractor had all plans on site but still cut through cable

The contractor who cut through a cable and caused a power cut on Saturday night had all the necessary plans on site to avoid doing so. 

The Electricity Authority has told GBC AMCO either didn't look at the plans or didn't use a cable avoiding tool.

Homes on the east side of the Rock were hit by a 90 minute power outage after AMCO workers drilled through a live power cable on Devil's Tower Road.

The Government has now fast-tracked a bill allowing it to fine contractors. It will be heard at the next meeting of Parliament.
