The Department of the Environment is investigating reports of an algae-like bloom affecting parts of Gibraltar's coastline, particularly Camp Bay and Little Bay.

Initial inspections suggest the bloom consists of micro-organisms commonly known as sea sparkle. Samples have been collected for further analysis.

The algae can produce a rotten smell, but has been ruled out as the cause of the South District smell.
