The Fire and Rescue Service has bought an Aerial Ladder Platform, a specialised appliance to respond primarily to fires in tall and complex buildings.
At a cost of 1.3 million pounds, it allows access to up to 45 metres or 15 to 16 floors to tackle fire and carry out rescues.
Changes in Gibraltar's make-up and an increase in high rise buildings has meant the platform is absolutely essential in a modern environment.
The Minister with responsibility for the fire service, Leslie Bruzon, believes the investment will help safeguard lives, property and infrastructure while supporting the long term growth and sustainability of Gibraltar.
